Girl with a non-pearl earring.

I want my ears pierced, Grace told me on the way to karate last week.

Why? I asked, anticipating a myriad of long reasons.

Because all the girls in my class have earring and I'm JEALOUS! she called out, emphasis loud and clear.

Talk to your father, I said, pleased to defer responsibility to him.

Then this morning, she came down with earrings. Hoops of string (with charms) that she had looped around her ears.

I can't decide if its adorable and innocent and a creative solution to a dilemma.

Or whether it's psychological warfare: she knows I'm not going to let her out looking so ridiculous and assumes I will, at some point, cave.

I say very creative problem solving and who knows maybe she could start a trend.

Maybe she'll be satisfied with her solution -- problem solved! Janelle got hers pierced last summer. It's cute and she loves them, but they do involve meticulous care. Not sure whether I'd recommend it or not...

But be thankful it is her ears, and not other appendages. I have friends with teenage daughters who begged for nose rings, belly-button rings, eyebrow rings, and their parents decided to pick their battles. Hopefully that is a few (many)years down the road...

Your daughter is creative - and the photos are adorable! Our solution came from an ouside source. Our daughter wanted pierced ears until her pal went out and got it done...sort of. The friend came to school with only 1 ear pierced and told the class about THE PAIN and why she wouldn't get the other ear done. That put an end to the negotiations...for now. :)

My daughter came home from a sleepover with very realistic-looking stick on earrings. They looked really cute on her, but after a few hours they were driving her crazy and she took them off on her own.

Also, your daughter looks beautiful, with or without earrings!

Too cute!! I think she looks great!
Er in had hers done last summer- we told her she had to pay for it...and low and behold she got about $60 in CLaire's gift cards for her birthday ( I thik she asked for them from her friends LOL) We have not had a problem- she is meticulous about cleaning them...but then she was warned.....
