I was thoroughly horrified (and a little depressed) by the power imbalance, and the way Andy (the president) worked this. Anything less than the simpering cutest-compliance of the Annette Benning character and this would have been a stalker-thriller. Eek - what was I thinking?<br /><br />I read Jane Eyre for the first time just a couple of years ago. I don't remember all of it, but I do remember having more or less the same response to the same relationship. Different time? I'm older? I wonder what I would have thought if I'd read it a couple of decades ago instead? <br /><br />I also wonder if I remember enough of JE to enjoy Wide Sargasso Sea (did we even know about a Caribbean connection in JE? I didn't remember that either, although it's starting to sound familiar). I'm intrigued, but I don't particularly want to re-read Jane Eyre.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
